With the House in play, the plan to retire announced by Evan Bayh yesterday rocked the senate. Dick Morris (dickmorris.com) is predicting as many as 60 seats in the House and 13 seats in the Senate being in play.

The big news yesterday was the smack down by former VP Cheney and current VP Biden.  But the story you may have missed was the smack down of VP Biden by new Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown. Biden called into question Brown's knowledge of military law.  Maybe the VP should ask his son, Beau, who just came back from Iraq. Beau knows military law because he served as an attorney for the military.  Scott Brown has been the lead attorney for New England for the Army National Guard.  He's been practicing military law for 30 years.  I think he knows his facts and he fought back eloquently. John Brennan, who is supposed to be the counter terrorism guy and National Security guy for the administration. He made some ridiculous comment about the 20% recidivism rate of Gitmo "releasees" going back to terrorism as compared to the 50% recidivism rate in the US prison system.  Not only does this reinforce the fact that the Obama administration looks at terrorists as common criminals, but also, this administration wants to try these guys in this system and incarcerate them in this system.  I guess they want a 50% recidivism rate of Gitmo "releasees." Also, Jim Galloway reports that Christian groups are opposing Sen. Renae Unterman's legislation on Child Prostitution.  Haven't dug into this one yet but I have reached out to the Faith and Freedom group to see if this has been reported accurately and what their opposition is. I'll be writing about Energy this week, has anyone noticed how gas prices have gone up?  Here are my beginning thoughts..

In the summer of 2008, there was a drumbeat every day as oil prices went up and that led to higher gas prices for consumers. Where is the outrage now? Gas prices are up dramatically and approaching $3 a gallon in many places in America. Where is the media asking what the administration is going to do about this?  In the State of the Union, President Obama gave a tepid acknowledgement to using our own energy resources and nuclear energy.  Late last week in a meeting with the GOP House Caucus, he hinted a little more.

Let's acknowledge most of the media is in the bag for President Obama and will continue blaming President Bush for everything.  President Bush has a role to play in the problem we have today regarding energy independence.  He had a majority for 5 years and the people right after 9/11.  We should have started drilling everywhere including my back yard if necessary on September 12, 2001 and done everything we could to become energy independent.  Can you imagine the boom we would have if we were energy independent and the Congress managed the budget and tax policy as if they cared?
