As far as the Super Bowl goes, I'll be watching, albeit not until the end.  I have to root for the Saints and it has nothing to do with Hurricane Katrina. They are NFC West and since the Falcons aren't there, I'll root for the Saints. According to the polls, that puts me at odds with conservatives. As Jim Galloway writes (http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/)  Jim shares:

Poll: Dems, independents prefer Saints, while more Republicans pull for Colts

This was just posted by Public Policy Polling, a North Carolina survey firm with a decent record:

Overall 32% of voters we polled on our last national survey said they'd be rooting for the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, with 22% going for the Indianapolis Colts and 46% expressing no preference.

There's a significant partisan divide within those numbers, as Democrats prefer the Saints by a 36-21 margin while Republicans say they want the Colts to be victorious by a closer 26-25 spread. Independents lean toward the Saints as well, 33-20.

Beyond the partisan divide it's also interesting to note that a plurality of voters don't care about who wins the game. It will still pile up huge ratings Sunday night but that finding just quantifies the fact that for many, watching the Super Bowl is more about the spectacle than what happens on the field.

The PPP site offers a few crosstabs as well.

Under the Gold Dome, Democrats announced a Transportation and Jobs proposal. Jeff Mullis, Republican from Chickamauga, said let's work together on this.  A little secret about this session, everything will be called a "jobs" act.  Chip Pearson's committee called the bill regarding the Cable companies and the EMC's a jobs act.  Even the advocates for the cable company's said this was not a "jobs" act.  I am for the JOBS Act introduced by Chip Rogers and Tom Graves and as long as that is passed and signed by the governor, then you can call anything else you want a "jobs" act.

And Sen Cecil Staton (R-Macon) held a press conference on Thursday, Feb. 4, to announce legislation to assist law enforcement officials crack down on illegal activities at advertised massage parlors.

The President gave a good, although long, State of the Union address.  He did not waiver from the themes of his last address to Congress.  He did attempt to reach out to the Republican Party and give some common ground.  He tried to expand the idea the that Republicans were the "Party of No." While the naysayers say there are no differences in the parties, well tonight, there were clear differences. He didn't discuss the Christmas Day bomber or closing Gitmo. (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2010/01/28/us/politics/AP-US-Obama-State-of-the-Union-Text.html)  My disappointment was that all the solutions were about government, not letting the American people and the free market solve the problems. Oh yea, and he threw "don't ask, don't tell" in the last minutes of the speech, the very long speech.

Scott Brown has not been sworn in yet, but his presence was felt.  In a statement released after the speech, Senator-Elect Brown said President Obama missed on what it took to turn around the economy.( http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010/01/26/scott-brown-on-proposed-banking-freeze/)

Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia gave the response and it was a free market response and with an audience.  Much better than the performance of Gov. Jindal the year before. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeSLVnAQSYo)

Then Tim Tebow may lead a team to the Super Bowl in a few years, but this year he's the star of a Focus on the Family ad celebrating family. Here's the statement from the Susan B. Anthony List:

"Today Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser responded to the objections from the National Organization for Women (NOW) to Focus on the Family's Super Bowl Pro-Life Tim Tebow advertisement.  She offered the following statement:

NOW and company are losing their grip as their pro-abortion position sinks in public opinion. I had no idea NOW leaders were such experts on sports. Missed that part of their mission.

What is real here is their desperation to keep full information from women. Shouldn't the "pro-choice" position respect Pam Tebow's decision to choose Life?  What is the worst case scenario in allowing the ad to air?  Women are exposed to an example of sacrifice for the sake of an unborn child. NOW needs to explain where the harm and threat to women and children is here.

Today, the AP released a story detailing NOW's efforts to call on CBS to drop theTebow Super Bowl ad.  The ad, produced by Focus on the Family, tells the story of Pam Tebow's decision to continue with her pregnancy against doctor advice and give birth to the college football star, Tim Tebow.

Earlier this year, NOW President Terry O'Neill, confessed to the National Journal that the organization is struggling. "It seems to me we are stalled out...".

The problem with the opposition to this ad is the NOW gals no they can't find a woman who would say, "I'm happy I had an abortion."  There may be necessary abortions for reasons of rape, incest and life of the mother, but even in those cases, it's not a decision to be celebrated.
