Reward in Search for Bank Robber

There is now $5,000 in reward money in the ongoing search for a suspect in Madison County bank robberies: authorities believe the same man might be responsible for hold-ups at the First Citizens Bank branch in Colbert, robberies last month and in late July.


Burglary Ring Busted

Four suspects have been arrested so far and more arrests are anticipated as authorities in Clarke and Madison Counties work to break up a northeast Georgia burglary ring. The suspects range in age from 17 to 41 and are suspected in robberies in Clarke, Madison, and Oconee Counties.

Former Hall County Congressman Nathan Deal releases his tax records: the GOP nominee for governor had been criticized by democrat Roy Barnes for not disclosing his tax returns. We are today 60 days away from Election Day.

Today marks the start of an extra-long holiday weekend for workers in Hall County: there's the Labor Day holiday on Monday, then another Hall County Government furlough day on Tuesday.


Crash Victim Dies

An elderly man whose pick-up truck collided with a gospel group's tour bus has died: Meabon Sanner was 75 years old, from Forsyth County. The accident happened Wednesday on Georgia 400 in Dawson County. The bus was chartered by the Dahlonega-based Karen Peck and New River group, a southern gospel singing group that was returning from an engagement in Branson Missouri. There were only minor injuries in the bus. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.


New President for Lanier Tech

Lanier Technical College has a new president: Russell Vandiver had been serving as interim president since the February departure of former Lanier Tech president Michael Moye.


Dahlonega Gospel Group in Dawson Co Bus Crash

Members of a Dahlonega-based gospel singing group are banged up in a bus crash on Georgia 400 near Dawsonville: it happened as Karen Peck and her New River group were returning from an engagement in Branson Missouri. A car pulled in front of their bus in Dawson County. Only minor injuries for the singers, but extensive damage for the bus: the accident is under investigation.


Suspected Burglars Busted in Hall Co

The Hall County Sheriff's Department says deputies have busted a burglary ring: eight suspects from Gainesville and Flowery Branch are in custody, charged in a string of residential break-ins. Hall County investigators say more arrests are anticipated.

Politics in Pendergrass

Candidate qualifying ended Wednesday in Pendergrass, with four political hopefuls signing up to run for two seats on the Pendergrass City Council. John Pethel is running for re-election; William Ellis, Bill Hazelgreen, and David Elrod also signed up to run. Incumbent Judy Stowe says she will not seek another term in the November 2 Pendergrass City Council elections.
